How to Track Time Effectively (Without Burning Out)
Most time tracking fails because it asks too much. The goal isn't to log every second — it's to see where the hours actually go, so you can spend them on what matters.
Start with blocks, not stopwatches
Instead of timing every task, split your day into a handful of blocks: deep work, meetings, breaks, admin. Assign each hour to one block. It takes seconds and gives you the shape of your day.
In WIMT, tap a block when you switch context. The app timestamps it — no manual math.
Track outcomes, not activity
Two hours of coding with three interruptions is not two hours of deep work. Note the outcome next to the block: what you shipped, decided, or learned. If a block has no outcome, that's a signal.
Review weekly, adjust monthly
Once a week, glance at your totals: how many hours went to your top goal? How many to meetings? Small imbalances compound. Adjust one thing for the next week — not five.
